Furniture Care

Wood

Frequently dust exposed surfaces with a clean, damp natural cloth. Dry the surface with another clean, dry cloth. Infrequently polish your furniture (a few times a year at most) with a non-silicon-base furniture polish made by a reputable manufacturer, taking care to follow the instructions. Bear in mind that one manufacturer’s furniture care products should never be used in combination with another. Product formulations are unique to each manufacturer and are made to blend with another, so using different polishes may cause build-up that can appear cloudy or dull over time, and/or feel sticky to the touch. Always polish or dust with a motion that follows the grain of the wood to avoid scratching the surface, and allow polish to dry completely before replacing any objects on the surface.

Upholstery

Remove all loose cushions. Loosen dirt with a hand-held dusting brush while using a vacuum brush attachment to remove dust. Vacuum all surfaces of the furniture: back, sides, arms, skirt (if applicable) and the platform beneath the cushions. Vacuum both sides of the loose cushions. When necessary, you can use commercially available cleaners on Theodore Alexander upholstery. Be sure to test on an inconspicuous area first. For day-to-day cleaning use a soft clean damp cloth.

Hand Painting Eglomisé

Theodore Alexander artists painstakingly create our hand-painted finishes using meticulous brushstrokes and age-old techniques. You can use a good quality furniture polish to maintain and preserve the unique artwork. Take care not to use abrasive cloths or polishes that may scratch a hand-painted finish. • Eglomisé – Eglomisé is a hand-made, centuries-old process that creates a stunning reflective surface. Regularly dust with a feather duster and wipe clean with a damp, lint-free cloth. • Argento – The Argento finish from Theodore Alexander is the result of an exclusive finishing process. From time to time, wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth, taking care not to over-wet the surface.
